About the collection - “Asyu”

Asyu”, (a feminine Turkish name meaning “ moon water”), is a collection reflecting multi-cultual origins and melding opposite art influences to accomplish a new wearable aesthetic dialog. Japanese art, which is embedded in nature and spirituality is juxtaposed with French 18th century Rococo; Opaque and acute Japanese precision lines must meet the airy lightness off the late Baroque. This collection features reference to the intricate Moth species, responsible for pollinating flowers that only bloom at night, as well as the Turkish stone, Oltu, that is very soft when excavated and only begins to harden when exposed to the air. Both insect and mineral are mysterious and transitional. “Asyu” fabrics and imagery are from an eclectic global offering ranging from Japanese street style to Turkish calligraphy and art Nouveau. Other more obscured Influences in this collection are very elemental, such as pigment, light, water, and sound, emphasizing mood, sensitivity, direction, and movement. www.rachaeldomingo.com
